Vote!

Today is the day! After 4 years we are back at the voting booth, voicing our opinion as to who we want to run our country. I think this is often something people take for granted. A lot of people think their vote doesn't matter, because they live in a liberal state or they live in a conservative state. This idea is something I don't agree with. Our votes do make a difference. And I am proud to be an American with the right to stand up for what I believe in. I am happy to say "I VOTED"

‎"To make democracy work, we must be a nation of participants, not simply observers. One who does not vote has no right to complain". - Louis L'Amour

Anyway that's enough of me on my soap box. Today I have decided to take a look at Presidential Style in correspondence with the election.

First off, Jackie O, one of the most influential style icons in the world, and also a first lady.

One of the first women to wear pants out in public, along with Katherine Hepburn. Gaining much criticism from the press and starting the trend toward androgynous fashion which we all know I love so much.

And Michelle Obama,

Always wearing bright colorful outfits! A great icon for how to dress appropriately but stylish and bold at the same time.

That's all for now. Now to see who our next president will be and how the first lady will fare as a style icon. :)

Vote!

News Flash: Balenciaga

After 15 years Nicolas Ghesquière is leaving Balenciaga! Balenciaga has always been one of my favorite luxury design houses. Always coming out with modern, innovative looks. However over the past few seasons I have lost interest in the brand, feeling as though Ghesquière has lost his way a little. Most of the most recent collections have been very hit or miss.

Miss!

Hit! Love this use of Neoprene with the Pop of Color on the underside!

Miss! What is this?

Hit! Love this look! Especially the pants. But this is very toned down for Balenciaga.

Hit! Awesome! Want to wear this to work!

Hits! By far my favorite collection of Balenciaga in the past few years!

Now we just wait to see what happens for both Ghesquière and Balenciaga. I know I am hoping Balenciaga can reclaim it's former glory. There have been way too many misses in my book, ready for a lot more hits!

Good luck to both parties!

Style Icon: La Roux

If I had to say who my #1 style icon is it would have to be La Roux! Which may be the reason I went as her for Halloween two years ago.

Look at that hair!

Ever since I cut my hair short I have been obsessed with the Androgynous look, a combination of both masculine and feminine. La Roux is such a great example of this style. Almost always dressed in 3 pieces; pants, a shirt and jacket/ coat. She pairs her pattern mixed clothing with masculine looking flats and lots of over sized jewelry. I have a very strong appreciation for those who have a strong sense of their own personal style, regardless of trends. La Roux is an inspiration in my daily dressing. So there is a peak into my personal style, or what I would like it to be.

Hurrication

As most of you know Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast hard this week! In preparation for the storm, Adrienne and I headed to our friends place in Midtown for a Hurricane Party. We figured if we were to get stuck somewhere might as well get stuck with friends and have a good time. It felt almost as if the Hurricane didn't hit us where we were with some wind gusts that were only noticeable by looking at the one tree we could see out the window, and rain! But as we watched the news we saw the devastation that had hit much on Manhattan, including power outages for the whole lower Manhattan! Of course we had to explore. We walked down to the darkness and experienced a whole different NYC, it was almost apocalyptic  We waded through puddles of water inches deep to see taxis submerged in water, trees blown down by the wind, signs blown off store fronts. Turns out we were the lucky ones, still with power and having a great time hanging out with friends, learning more about each other with every day. These boys have let us stay with them for almost a week due to power being out in my apartment, and I am super grateful. As I have walked downtown to my apartment to pick up extra clothes and such I have seen people huddled near Starbucks just  to get wifi, and people inside banks just to charge their phones. Here are just a few photos of Manhattan post Sandy!

Windows taped up.

In the middle of 6th Ave because no one was out in the streets.

All the water I prepared incase my power went out.

Tree's out of the ground.

People lining up at the fire hydrant to get water.

The dark streets, due to power outages all throughout the city.

People sitting in the ATM's to charge their phones.

Tattoos

This is a post all about Tattoos, there are 2 types of people in the world, those who want tattoos and those who don't. And those who want tattoo's includes all the people who have atleast one already and want more.    I have to say that I am among those who want tattoos. At first I thought I didn't want one but over the years I have seen so many beautiful people who have tattoos and a lot of them, and I can't take my eyes off of them. However, I have such low pain tolerance that when someone pinches me it hurts for twenty minutes. This does not seem to be conducive to me getting a tattoo. Maybe someday I will work up the courage to handle the pain, of course my plan only includes getting one tattoo, not a whole body of them. For now, I am just going to admire the beautiful art that I see on other people's bodies.

This is not a tattoo just a drawing. But I loved it just as much!

The Edge Effect

I am currently working on designing a collection for a second interview. With who, I am not going to say because I don't want to jinx it. During my research I came across a lot of amazing, inspiring images. Here is one set, called "The Edge Effect" by Daniel Kukl.

Pretty awesome am I right?!
